I am 45 years old married with a family.I have just endured 12 months of hell.I feel the experiences i have encountered would be valuable to a newly unemployed person.I just need help and advice on a route forward.I am taking part in a BBC show this year due to be aired Feb/March 2010,named famous rich jobless.I am hoping this how will highlight some of the issues and pain that is caused by redundancy.I have never had any advice in 12 months,it is a mine field out there,as a very proud man was reluctant to claim benefits, but the day finally did come, but no advice was ever given.
I have over recent months lost all confidence in myself, this is the most dangerous symptom of being unemployed. It is much too late for the Government to offer help after 12 months, too much damage has been done,it should be after 12 weeks,i have many times attempted to highlight these issues, namely with Yvette Cooper, but as yet have never been given the chance.
Our job centres are full of young advisers with no recruitment experience, supposedly there to give us advice, all they do is be little you and knock your confidence. Please help me promote my issues,in the public arena.I am not the only 45 year old man out of work,we hear of help for the young, but never for my age. Please i have over 20 years managerial experience,do not write me off.Any help you or anyone can give will be a big help.
Sarah,
ReplyDeletePlease accept my apologies for E Mailing you once again. As you will see by the time of my E Mail i have been watching work and pensions questions.I fully accept it is not an area you would wish to get involved in,but i really do need help,in order i can get a qualified answer to my issues,as per my recent blog which i sent to you.
I really do feel no one is listening,i have just heard Yvette say the job centres are full of qualified people, this is just not true.Yvette also mentioned she has visited job centres,i ask again, please Yvette experience my visit, see what help is on offer, see how well trained the staff are.I lay he gauntlet down,i firmly believe your information you are being given is totally inaccurate.
Once again, never a mention of the unemployed in my sector which is Management, aged 45.I asked the job centre to refer me to an agency, which would have been free of charge, thanks to the BBC programme i have taken part in,they refused as i have been seen by one already, who contacted me once and i never heard from them again,a service the government are paying for.I really do want to help, but most of all i need to know Yvette is aware,i Will give up all my time in order to help.We are the forgotten unemployed,as i have said in 12 Months so much damage can be done, our only help is job centre plus, which is not equipped with the experienced personnel,i do not want to be sat down by a 20 year old person, asking me what i have done,as part of a rehearsed script read to everyone,we are all different, and most of all people, some of which want help and work.
I am so sorry Sarah,i know you will wish you never replied to me and i thank you so much,i just need my issues to be aired, and feel someone is listening,i would dearly like to meet Yvette or yourself to explain hands on exactly what i experience,i do not blame the people, but there is a link missing and all the investment is being wasted.
I'm sorry again, but i am at my Witt's end,any help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Mark J Shields
Another week goes by,the hope i had seems to be dwindleing fast again, confidence so low.I have contacted George Osbourne, who really in political terms has been the only person to pass comment.Without the family Larry Lamb who has been great,i do not know where i would be.My only hope now is when the programme,Rich Famous Jobless airs soon, but will it show really how bad it gets i hope so.My sons Birthday this week 8 years old,how do you explain, every week you come scrossanother hurdle.I heard a quote the other day you do not live on benefits you exist,i have posted this to numerous people, how many actually did read it,because 12 months ago i would not have.I had one response from the rime ministers wife, the hope she gave me was inspirational, just to know that someone cares. If i was not trying so hard it would not be so bad,i never ever thought i would be in this place,it is very lonely, and a place i hope no one else has to visit.
ReplyDeleteI was also told the higher you are the harder you fall, that is so true.If i had never had it,i would not miss it ,but i did,i worked since i was 17,managed recruited people, and always thought all people in my position where lazy.Thank god for my wife, son, mum, sister.
Mr Larry Lamb also said i should not be so proud, and accept help,i agree, but the help only eve comes from the same people.
When you see some of the rubbish on television, forgive me but Katie,Peter, lets get real and portray some of the real issues and storys out there.
PLEASE if you have the time promote my blog,or give me advice on how to promote it.I am a genune 45 year old married family man,i feel with no voice, getting no help, and just wasteing away.
Many people will say get up do something,i cannot ,i am trapped. No one will invest,i have no credit, all i need is a chance please help.
mark,i totally agree with all you say,i myself have been unemployed 13 month now[1st time in my life] and the help you get is zero, like you i would not claim benefits until actually today, and only because i can see armageddon approaching,my age is 57 and after over 1000 applications recieved 2 replies just to say soory no,having risen to director from trades level i also find a great wilderness out there and no sign posts to give you directions.however it is very hard to get up each day and try to keep going,i would suppose there are those who are not able to either read or comment today only because yesterday was too much for them so keep going.george
ReplyDeleteGeorge your comments are very welcome,it is really the feel of isolation, and no one really cares.People who want to work are never given a platform, the media only concentrate on the unemployed who really cannot be bothered. You visit the job centre and get treated as if you do not want to work,i only hope the upcoming BBC programme that i took part in,changes my luck.People say you must sound positive,i try,but to be positive you need hope, once again thank you for your response
